What is Marimacho?

Marimacho is a masculine clothing line for cis women and transmasculine bodies. We design in-house, manufacture locally and distribute our entire line via our website. Our primary focus is fit. We make classic masculine garments with narrower armholes and necklines, shorter sleeve lengths, more bust room, etc. In this way, we offer cis women, trans men and gender queer folks the same standards of fit and style available in mainstream menswear.  Marimacho is dedicated to creating classic masculine fashion that empowers people of all genders.

The Marimacho aesthetic is a combination of dandy fashion and urban motifs. The last five years have seen an evolution of style consciousness among genderqueer people, which has ushered in a new fashion subculture. Marimacho is born out of this emerging style ethos. The prevailing aesthetic draws from early to mid-20th century menswear, characterized by bow ties, vests, tailored suits and button-downs. Long gone are the fashion stereotypes of the tragically unstylish masculine women; the modern queer aesthetic is tailored, sophisticated and timeless. This is Marimacho’s inspiration.

Who is Marimacho?

Marimacho is the vision and creation of Brooklyn-based duo Crystal González and Ivette Alé.

As a masculine-identified cis woman, Crystal knows the challenges of finding well-fitting, gender-appropriate clothing. These frustrations inspired the idea of a masculine clothing line during her college years. Crystal is drawn to classic looks mixed with an urban aesthetic; she likes fitted button-downs, bow ties, and blazers as well as brightly colored sneakers and bold graphics.

Fashion has been Ivette Alé’s artistic outlet from a young age. Having grown up in Los Angeles’ rockabilly scene, she continues to draw inspiration from music subculture and throwback fashion. As creative director, Ivette’s love of vintage clothing bleeds through every piece. She has years of experience working in the apparel industry managing finance and operations, but designing is what she loves.

Crystal and Ivette believe clothing is an extension of performance and delight in creating fashion that is both classic and bold. They understand that part of feeling comfortable in your own skin is feeling comfortable in your clothes. Marimacho aims to empower queer people through gender and body responsive fashion.
